Conte would have told Chelsea to give Terry a new deal - Desailly

Marcel Desailly is of the belief that Antonio Conte would have persuaded Chelsea to deal-in John Terry.

There was plenty of talk that the veteran defender was set to leave Stamford Bridge at the conclusion of his contract this summer but the 35-year-old ended up signing a new one-year deal, which according to former Blues star Desailly, would have been the influence of incoming boss Conte.

The Frenchman told Omnisport: "Chelsea said 'we don't give out contracts [for] more than one year' or they made a statement that they didn't want John to stay, and probably Conte said 'wait, wait, wait, wait… he's historic – let me talk with him, discuss with him, to explain to him what I want to do for next season."
