Antonio Conte expressed his sorrow at the crowd violence that marred Wednesday night's EFL Cup clash between Chelsea and West Ham United.

West Ham's 2-1 win was overshadowed by unrest between the two sets of supporters at the London Stadium which saw seats ripped up and thrown along with bottles and coins.

Riot police were called on to divide the angry supporters which according to Conte is a situation he feels has no place in English football.

"I must be honest because I didn't see it, we were playing," said the Italian.

"I don't like this type of situation because it's important to always see the right atmosphere.

"In England we are used to seeing that and it's right to maintain that. I'm sorry about this situation."

A Chelsea spokesman added of the situation: "The club is extremely disappointed to see disturbances at the end of tonight's game and we condemn such behaviour.

"I'm unable to comment further until tonight's incidents have been investigated properly."
