Confident Tottenham youngster Edwards rejects Ajax move

Tottenham youngster Marcus Edwards has rejected the advances of Ajax, according to Charlton Athletic academy coach David Powderly.

The 18-year-old is said to be confident he can break into the first team this season. Edwards signed a new three year deal with Spurs in July.

Powerly said: "Ajax went out to try and buy Marcus Edwards to make a point that English players are good enough.

"They wanted to buy and bring Edwards through, then sell him on at high price. To make English clubs think again.

"The whole point… so English clubs stopped purchasing their youngsters at 15-18.

"Many other clubs highlighted by BVB are doing the same."

Asked whether Spurs or Edwards turned down a move to Holland, Powederly claimed: "Edwards believes he can play first team this season at Spurs."
