Confidence of Arsenal striker is 'diminished' - France boss Deschamps

France manager Didier Deschamps is of the belief that Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud is lacking confidence.

Giroud has fallen down the pecking order behind Theo Walcott in the Gunners line-up recently and as a result, the striker has featured only sparingly.

Despite the lack of minutes coming his way, Giroud was called up to the French national team for the upcoming round of international fixtures and Les Bleus boss Deschamps has stated that the Arsenal man is going through a confidence crisis right now.

Deschamps said: "Olivier is in a tough position -- it's a difficult period for him. He was sent off in the Champions League with Arsenal and couldn't play in their last match in the competition. He's not playing as much as before. Inevitably, his confidence has diminished.

"He started two games at the 2014 World Cup. He was an important player and he can't lose that from one day to the next."

However, Deschamps indicated he would be giving the 29-year-old a chance in the friendly double-header with Armenia and Denmark: "The fact that he's here is also a way of telling him that I have confidence in him."
