Concacaf confirms venues for Gold Cup

The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (Concacaf) has confirmed the 15 US-based venues that will host next year's edition of the Gold Cup national team tournament, reports SportBusiness.

Among the venues are Banc of California Stadium, the new home of Major League Soccer team Los Angeles FC which opened last month, and Allianz Field, the soon-to-open stadium for MLS rival Minnesota United.

The 13 other venues have hosted Gold Cup matches before. They are: Bank of America Stadium (Charlotte), BBVA Compass Stadium (Houston), Children's Mercy Park (Kansas City), FirstEnergy Stadium (Cleveland), Lincoln Financial Field (Philadelphia), Nissan Stadium (Nashville), NRG Stadium (Houston), Red Bull Arena (Harrison), Rose Bowl (Pasadena), Soldier Field (Chicago), Sports Authority Field at Mile High (Denver), Toyota Stadium (Frisco) and University of Phoenix Stadium (Glendale).

Eight Gold Cup host markets – Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Nashville, New York/New Jersey and Philadelphia – have been announced as final candidate cities for the joint bid from the US, Mexico and Canada to host the 2026 Fifa World Cup.

Next year's Gold Cup will be an expanded version of the tournament, with a record 16 nations set to compete. Matches will also be played in Central America and the Caribbean for the first time, with these venues to be announced in the coming months.

Concacaf president Victor Montagliani said: "The venues selected thus far offer a mix of soccer history as well as a taste of the future of the sport in the US, and we are excited to work with the local host committees to bring the game to fans all over the US. With the upcoming selection of additional venues in the Caribbean and Central America, the Gold Cup becomes a regional event on even more levels, as Concacaf continues to focus on making football accessible to more teams, players and fans."
