Torino defender Gianluca Comotto has slammed the decision to sack coach Walter Novellino last week.

Comotto, currently recovering from knee surgery, barked: "When that happened with Novellino I was very angry. I wish I had been there, I would have defended him to the death, because Novellino is a great man of football and deserved the respect that he had not received.

"Toro will be safe, but I hope people do not give merit to those people who do not deserve it. Great work has been done by Novellino, and safety will be reached on his merit and the players."
