Comfortable wins for both Celtic and Rangers in Scotland

Old Firm rivals Celtic and Rangers have both produced 3-0 victories to kick off 2012 in style in the Scottish Premier League.

The Hoops maintained their two-point lead at the top of the table with a comfortable victory at Dunfermline Athletic thanks to goals from Anthony Stokes, Victor Wanyama and Charlie Mulgrew with the last goal the pick of the lot as Mulgrew curled in a 30-yard free-kick for Celtic's 10th league win on the trot.

At Ibrox, Rangers produced a similar scoreline to see off Motherwell with David Healy and Sone Aluko on the scoresheet as Stephen Craigan supplied an own goal to help wrap it up for the reigning champions.

Elsewhere in the SPL, Aberdeen came from behind to beat Dundee United 2-1 at Tannadice Park with Mohamed Chalali canceling out Jon Daly's opener before Kari Arnason scored a late winner whilst Kilmarnock recorded a 2-1 win over St Mirren after falling behind. Lee Mair gave the Buddies the lead in the 10th minute before Paul Heffernan leveled and then Danny Racchi won it in the final minute.

Earlier in the day, Heart of Midlothian triumphed in the Edinburgh derby with a 3-1 result at Hibernian.
