Columbus Crew signs former Man City, Nuremberg defender Glauber

Columbus Crew have secured the services of Brazilian defender Glauber from Romanian club Rapid Bucharest.

The 29-year old, who has represented Brazil on one occasion, joins the Crew as a Discovery Signing and his arrival has thrilled president and general manager Mark McCullers.

"Glauber is a world-class international defender who we feel will be a great complement to Chad Marshall, anchoring our central defense," McCullers said in a statement.

"This was a key priority to improve our team in the offseason and we are excited for him to join the club."

Glauber kicked off his career with Atletico Mineiro in 2000 before moving to Palmeiras in 2003 and onto German club FC Nuremberg two years later.

In 2008, Glauber headed to Manchester City and has since spent time with Sao Caetano and Rapid.
