Columbus Crew are battling to land one of their international striker targets.
The MLS transfer window closes Sunday.
"We're still working," Crew president and general manager Mark McCullers told the Columbus Dispatch. "But we made some formal offers to some prospects who we thought were within our financial reach.
"You don't want to make a mistake, but at the same time you want to be aggressive and make something happen that has an impact on the team.
"But if it doesn't work out, then we will still have those resources available (for next season)."
