Columbus Crew ask Schelotto to take pay cut

Columbus Crew have reportedly had a meeting with star player Guillermo Barros Schelotto and asked him to take a pay cut.

A report in the Washington Post's Insider said that Crew upper management have given the Argentine the ultimatum that if he wants to stay at the club, he must take a pay cut of more than 50 percent.

36-year old Schelotto's contract expires next month and is keen to remain in MLS but an offer of less than $300,000 for season 2010 is likely to be overlooked for two other offers he has received from Argentinean clubs or he may be asked to be traded to a rival MLS club.

Crew will be loathe to get rid of Schelotto as he has guided the club to consecutive Supporters' Shields as well as last year's MLS Cup whilst netting 24 goals and having a hand in 33 others in 73 appearances.
