Columbus Crew announce Gaven knee surgery

The Columbus Crew today announced that midfielder Eddie Gaven has undergone arthroscopic knee surgery to address a ruptured left Anterior Cruciate Ligament.

Gaven is set to begin the rehabilitation process and is expected to return for the 2014 MLS season.

The procedure was performed by club physician Dr. Pete Edwards in Columbus.

Gaven suffered the injury on May 29 during the Crew's 2-1 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup victory over Dayton, scoring the first goal and assisting on Justin Meram's match-winner before exiting in the 86th-minute following the injury. Gaven made 11 appearances in all competitions this season, all of them starts, scoring one goal and recording four assists and in 984 minutes of action.
