Columbus cops explain Toronto, Crew fans clash

Columbus police have responded as to why they used force to break up fights between Toronto FC fans and supporters of the Columbus Crew following their game on Saturday. Videos of disturbances and the police have appeared on various popular websites since Saturday.

"It was big enough to ask from cars all over the city to respond to that area because there were numerous fights and disturbances," Sergeant Rich Weiner of the Columbus Police Department told the Toronto star.

"It could have been a tactical use of the Taser to back the crowd up from the officers actually taking someone into custody," said Weiner.

However, Weiner wanted to make it clear that the disturbances were: "For the amount of fans and the amount of people that we had down there it was really, really minor,"
