Colorado Rapids sign Wynne, acquire Nane from Toronto

The Colorado Rapids announced today that the team has signed defender Marvell Wynne to a new multi-year contract. Per league and team policy, financial terms were not disclosed.

Wynne started in 27 regular season games and in all four playoff matches for the Rapids in 2010 playing primarily as a central defender, a position he had never played in his career prior to coming to Colorado. The former first overall selection in the 2006 MLS SuperDraft by New York has appeared in 123 career MLS games, 117 as a starter, and recorded two goals and 13 assists.

In another roster move, the Rapids acquired midfielder Joseph Nane in a trade with Toronto FC in exchange for Colorado's natural third round pick in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft.

A native of Cameroon, Nane appeared in 11 games, with eight starts, playing 614 minutes for Toronto in his rookie campaign last season. He was originally selected by TFC in the fourth round of the 2010 MLS SuperDraft (53rd overall) from Old Dominion University.
