Colorado Rapids sign draft pick keeper Berner

Colorado Rapids have confirmed the signing of goalkeeper John Berner.

The promising gloveman was selected by the Rapids with pick number 35 in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft and has now signed a pro deal with the Denver outfit.

"I would like to thank the coaching staff and entire Colorado Rapids organization for this amazing opportunity," said Berner.

"I'd also like to thank Nicco Roffo, Global Premiere management and my old coach Brian Jones for helping me get to this point in my career. I look forward to taking this next step with the Rapids and can't wait for the upcoming season."

Berner was a star at Southern Illinois University (SIU)-Edwardsville in 2012 and 2013 and has impressed during preseason with the Rapids, appearing in two friendly hitouts without conceding a goal.
