Shane O'Neill admits it was a surprise to be called up to Juergen Klinsmann's USA squad late last week.
The 20-year old Colorado Rapids midfielder/defender was included in a 26-man training camp that will take place in Brazil over two weeks this month after representing the US at U20 level in 2012 and 2013.
Irish-born O'Neill is eligible to play for the Republic of Ireland national team and although he was thrilled to receive the US call-up, he has not pledged his allegiance to either nation just yet.
"I was pretty shocked," he told MLSsoccer.com.
"I'm going to go there with an open mind. I'm just excited with the text from Juergen saying I was going to get called in."
Of the Ireland possibility, O'Neill added: "I'm not going to rule out any possibilities for sure.
"It's just a training camp, and hopefully it'll just be used as a good way to improve my game for the next couple of weeks."
