Colorado Governor Bill Ritter has proclaimed Nov. 23, 2010 as "Colorado Rapids Day" in recognition of the Colorado Rapids winning the MLS Cup after defeating FC Dallas 2-1 in overtime Sunday night at BMO Field in Toronto. In addition, Gov. Ritter ordered the Colorado Rapids flag be flown over the Capitol building in honor of the club's first MLS Cup victory.
Gov. Ritter congratulated the Rapids players, management, coaches and staff for an incredibly successful season and for energizing fans around the state.
"On behalf of all Coloradans, it is an honor to congratulate the players and coaches and extend a huge thank you to the Rapids for once again making Denver and Colorado a champion on the athletic field," Gov. Ritter said. "Our hometown soccer team showed incredible heart to clinch a playoff berth, to advance through the playoffs and to win Sunday night's Final - against a team from Texas no less. On behalf of all Coloradans, congratulations to the Rapids. They demonstrated what it means to never give up, and they are truly an inspiration to all of us."
City and County of Denver, Downtown Denver Partnership and Visit Denver are hosting a "Rapids Victory Celebration" on today at 4 p.m. at Skyline Park in downtown Denver to recognize the MLS Cup Champs.
