MLS expansion franchise Portland Timbers have secured the services of Colombian midfielder Diego Charas.
The 25-year old has joined the Timbers from homeland club Deportes Tolima as their first Designated Player and his impending arrival has club general manager Gavin Wilkinson very excited.
"He's just an impressive, impressive player," Wilkinson told MLSsoccer.com. "He's got the work ethic that we need, he's a very good athlete and is always looking at distribution moving forward.
"He's a player that can put the opposition under pressure."
Charas will link up with former Tolima teammate Jorge Perlaza at Jeld-Wen Field and Wilkinson said that the striker's words helped convince the new addition to make the move.
"In speaking with Jorge, he has nothing but tremendous things to say about Diego," Wilkinson added. "Both players were scouted several times. When John and I watched Tolima, we liked both players."
