Fabricio Coloccini is on his way back to Newcastle United.

The Daily Star says the Toon skipper headed back to Argentina after being diagnosed with two small fractures in his back after falling heavily attempting an overhead clearance against Southampton on February 24.

Considering his desire to return to South America for personal reasons the previous month, many Newcastle fans feared they'd seen the last of the popular central defender.

But Coloccini, whose flight home was sanctioned by the club, will begin light training in the gym this week, having spent the last month resting his back.
