Collymore attacks Man City "mercenaries": You're no Liverpool!

Former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore has taken aim at Manchester City.

Collymore wrote in the People: "City's problem is their mercenary make-up. They are a very talented bunch of individuals, but they do not possess the heartbeat that will make them champions time and again.

"When you think of the teams who have routinely won titles - your Manchester Uniteds, Arsenals and Chelseas - you think of their great leaders, such as Roy Keane, Patrick Vieira, John Terry and Frank Lampard.

"Take Steven Gerrard, too. He has been the main difference between Liverpool and City this season, and the way he spoke to his team-mates after last weekend's game against Manuel Pellegrini's side was the perfect example of how he is dragging them towards the finish line.

"Vincent Kompany is the one player you would look to at City, but he only goes three-quarters of the way Gerrard goes for Liverpool.

"And then you have Yaya Toure, a player who can single-handedly destroy some teams but can also go missing in the biggest of games. Perhaps that's why Barcelona let him go."
