Collins not holding his breath over Celtic job

Former Celtic midfielder John Collins feels his lack of experience is a hindrance for the top job with the Hoops. The former Hibernian boss has been out of work since leaving Belgian club Charleroi last summer.

While acknowledging that the post would be a 'big challenge', Collins believes the Celtic hierarchy will be looking for a manager who is more experienced than himself.

He said: "There's a big job in Glasgow, but I would imagine they would be going for somebody a bit more experienced than myself.

"But it is a big job for somebody, a big challenge."

While interim boss Neil Lennon is still a rookie in managerial terms, Collins believes he does have a chance of landing the post on a permanent basis - if he wins all his remaining games this season.

Collins added: "That was the one (Ross County) that was a poor defeat and a poor performance, but he has had four league victories on the bounce, so you never know.

"If he goes from now until the end of the season winning every game, he might have a chance."

If Lennon does miss out, Collins also believes Celtic will struggle to tempt anyone from the English Premier League, as well the top foreign managers.

He added: "I think they have got to be realistic now.

"I don't think they are going to pull anybody away from the Premiership.

"There has been talk of Mark Hughes, who I think would be a good choice - I think he's a terrific manager.

"But I am sure Mark Hughes would prefer to stay in the English Premiership.

"Do they go for a foreign manager? It is always an option, but it is a tough one: are the big boys going to want to go to Glasgow? I don't think so."
