Collina praises referees and players at Euro 2008

"I saw a great deal of respect between the players and officials, I think in part thanks to the initiatives UEFA took," said the chief of Italy's AIA Referees Association.

"The word 'respect' was fundamental and I saw it in every single game in this European Championship."

There was some controversy around refereeing decisions, as Italy protested about a valid Luca Toni goal that was flagged offside in the 1-1 draw with Romania, while Poland were furious at a late penalty awarded to Austria in the group phase.

The keys to the Final this evening in Vienna have been handed to an Italian official, as Roberto Rosetti officiates Germany-Spain.

"I believe this is an act of recognition for his hard work and strong career," added Collina.
