Liverpool midfielder Joe Cole says manager Roy Hodgson is already making a big impact at Anfield.
Hodgson had a big say on Cole choosing Liverpool as his next club after coming off contract at Chelsea.
He said: "Hopefully I have come to Liverpool at the right time to help it become successful.
"Expectations are low. The previous management - however successful it had been - had come to an end and had become stale.
"Roy Hodgson has come in with fresh ideas and freshened the place up. I knew Roy was well respected and, if you talk to people in the game, they will tell you what a good coach he is.
"He is a nice guy and he gets his message across in English, although I have seen him coach in three different languages!
"He's impressive like that. He knows his football and I can talk football to people like that for ages."
Cole, who could make his home debut against Rabotnicki in the second leg of the Europa League qualifier on Thursday night, also dismissed thoughts he might find it difficult to settle on Merseyside.
He added: "It is a very vibrant city - I love it. Moving away from London was always going to be tough, because I have lived there all my life.
"But I will make it work."
