The 18-year-old, who has trained with the U's this week, can play at left-back or centre-half.
"I'm happy to be here. I've been at QPR since I was eight and this is my first move away so it's a bit of a shock being here," he told BBC Essex.
"I wanted to get league experience. Sometimes you need to get out and see other places.
"Not many teams would give a defender a chance at my age."
