Colchester defender Chris Coyne has revealed how his Socceroos selection has given him the inspiration to continue his career in England. After enduring a tough time football-wise in recent years, Coyne finally felt he made it when Pim Verbeek gave him an opportunity in the national squad and it has revamped his outlook on the game.
"I was planning to maybe come home at 30 or 31 but that's all changed now and suddenly it's more a case of I can play for another four or five years now," Coyne told
"I'm getting out of bed with a smile on my face again now and enjoying my football like I did five or six years ago.
"Playing for Australia has given me an extra impetus to push on. I've had a taste of it now and it's made me hungry for more.
"I was sitting next to Lucas Neill on the plane back from Uzbekistan (in September) and he told me all about what it was like to play at a World Cup and all it did was whet the appetite more.
"It would be the pinnacle for me, especially having not figured for the national team until now."
