Colchester land Luton defender Coyne for record fee

Colchester have completed the signing of Luton Town captain Chris Coyne.

Luton were forced to sell the 29-year-old due to mounting debts, while also seeing Dean Morgan's recent move to Leeds collapse over personal terms.

Coyne, formerly of West Ham and Dundee, is expected to go straight into the squad to face high-flying Bristol City this weekend.

"It's great news for the club," said manager Geraint Williams. "Chris is a defender with experience and leadership qualities."
