Jack Colback says Newcastle United's players are seeking a fresh start under new gaffer Steve McClaren.

Colback says United are embracing a “fresh start" at the club following last season's woes.

“It would have been depressing, obviously, if we had been relegated but it didn't happen and now it's a new start for everybody at the club," he said.

“Hopefully we can do a lot better than we did last year. It's a level playing field, and a fresh start.

“You've got to prove yourself again. So it's about doing as well as you can on the training field and then hopefully being in that first XI for the start of the season."
