Colback happy with Sunderland wing-back role

Jack Colback is enjoying his wing-back role for Sunderland this season.

The homegrown midfielder has begun the season at left-back as Sunderland have struggled to sign a specialist in that position, with potential moves for several targets having fallen through.

"The manager has just said that it's a role that's important for the team," said the 23-year-old to the Evening Chronicle.

"He wants the full-backs to push on when they can and I enjoy playing there. I feel comfortable playing there now. I've done it enough times and the way we play, is a lot easier.

"You get more options on the ball with the movement of the team, so I'm happy. The manager wants people to have that free role to get forwards and that attacking mentality.

"It's how football should be played, so it's been enjoyable playing that way so far."
