Stoke City chairman Peter Coates is targeting a top 8 finish.

Coates also hopes to finish above West Brom to end the season the best team in Midlands.

“I have long been saying we still have plenty to play for this season," said Coates to The Sentinel, “and we will certainly be doing our best to chase down whichever team is in front of us. That must be the aim.

“I think it will be an interesting run-in to the end of the season for a lot of clubs over the remaining 10 games.

“I always believe it is a case of what we do that matters most of all and I am sure our players will want a strong finish to their season.

“First of all, however, we have the little matter of a home game with Chelsea on Saturday and that is one we are all looking forward to."
