Clarke yet to pen new Chelsea contract

Chelsea are waiting for assistant manager Steve Clarke to sign a new £500,000-a-year contract.

The Daily Express says Clarke, previously a highly valued No2 to Grant's predecessor Jose Mourinho, had hinted that he was going to leave the London club after the Portuguese left.

But the former Chelsea and Scotland player, who had been sought as a manager in his own right by Leicester and QPR at the start of the season, was persuaded to stay at Stamford Bridge.

Clarke now takes on a bigger role in the preparation of the team for games alongside new Dutch coach Henk Ten Cate, with Grant acting as the overseer - and he has been offered a new, improved deal to compensate for those increased duties.

But the Scot has still not signed the new contract, which was presented to him three weeks ago.
