Aston Villa defender Ciaran Clark says there's great excitement inside the squad working with manager Paul Lambert.

The 22-year-old defender is hoping to start the season in central defence and says the players share the newfound optimism of the Villa supporters.

"Everyone is thrilled to get into the training ground in the morning," Clark told the Birmingham Mail.

"From the moment they wake up they want to get out there and look forward to working hard in training. It's so enjoyable.

"I feel that buzz. You can't help but notice it. Just being at the games you can sense that positivity and excitement among the fans. That can only be a good thing for the season."
