Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has compared Papiss Cisse's goal in Sunday's 4-2 victory over Southampton to that of Magpies great Alan Shearer.

The Senegalese ace gave Newcastle a 2-1 lead in the 42nd minute when he fired home a dipping 30-yard effort off the underside of the crossbar with Pardew likening the strike to something Shearer would have produced during his St James' Park heyday.

"It was a wonder-goal, an Alan Shearer-type moment, from Cisse. That's one of the goal that will certainly get into Papiss Cisse's top 10, that's for sure," he said.

"As soon as he hit it, you sensed it was in. He has got that in him, Papiss, he can get all types of goals. But it was a really great one today, fantastic."
