Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has indicated that the free-scoring form of Papiss Demba Cisse is no fluke.

The Senegal international, who arrived at Sports Direct Arena in the winter, scored two goals in the 2-0 home win over Liverpool yesterday to take his Magpies tally to seven from seven with his manager comparing his most recent performance to that of club legend Alan Shearer.

"This is a guy who has been a top player in the Bundesliga, and you are talking about one of the best leagues in the world, so it's no mystery," Pardew said of the former Freiburg ace.

"But it's nice that he has got off to this flying start here. Seven goals in seven games, he has got confidence oozing out of him, and that helps as well.

"But his all-round performance was Shearer-like today. He was absolutely terrific and I can't pay him a higher compliment than that."
