Former Freiburg striker Papiss Demba Cisse admits he turned down several offers before signing with Newcastle United.

Cisse joined Toon this week in a whirlwind deal.

"There were other clubs interested, but the moment Newcastle showed their full interest I was delighted to come - there was only one place for me," he told the Evening Chronicle.

"Now, I need to seize the opportunity and show everybody what I can do.

"The aim is to make the most of the opportunity that has been given to me."

He went on: "This was the club I wanted to join.

"I am just so pleased the opportunity has come round for me and I am in the position to accept it."
