Luca Cigarini intends to leave Napoli this summer.
Cigarini was signed for a total of 11m from Atalanta and Parma last year, the clubs who co-owned him.
"He's young, he adores this sport and wants to play football. He doesn't want to sit on the bench and I think that is a legitimate request," said agent Giovanni Bia.
"There is nothing happening right now though as the transfer market is at a standstill. We'll find the best solution for him in full agreement with Napoli."
Bia, a former defender with Udinese, went on to assure the Azzurri faithful that his client wants out for purely footballing reasons.
"He had no problems with the environment here," Bia added. "Actually he'd like to thank the fans who stayed close to him during the difficult times.
"When the coaching change occurred different decisions were made, the main being that Mazzarri wanted to play with two midfield enforcers."
