Chirstian Gomez is set to leave DC United after the club told him he was no longer in their plans.
The 2006 MLS MVP's contract has not been renewed and he was told to explore other options by DC general manager Dave Kasper.
"Right now, he's not in our plans," Kasper said. "We told him we are moving in a different direction. I think he's disappointed; he wanted to return. Is it possible we might circle back? It's possible, but we told him to explore all his options."
The 35-year old midfielder joined DC in 2004 and spent the next three season in Washington before moving on to the Colorado Rapids in 2008. He returned to DC last season but his comeback to RKF Stadium did not go as expected.
