After winning the Champions League, Inter Milan defender Cristian Chivu admits he feared he would never play again earlier this season.
Chivu needed emergency surgery to remove skull fragments from his brain after a horrific accidental clash of heads with Chievo's Sergio Pellissier.
He was out of action for several months, but returned to help Inter win the Scudetto, Coppa Italia and Champions League.
"I didn't know if I would ever play again, let alone be here five months later with all these trophies. This is an absolute dream," he said choking back tears.
Chivu had a place in the starting XI with the aid of a protective helmet and revealed what has changed from previous years.
"It wasn't easy at all! It is thanks to all the hard work we have done throughout the year, proving character in difficult moments and at the end we understood you only win these tournaments if you are a real team.
"We proved that and were missing something in Europe, but finally realised what we were missing.
"We needed a bit of luck, but basically the Champions League is won and lost in the tiny details. You have to not make mistakes and take advantage of other people's errors."
