Chivas USA will be looking to improve before the start of the season following a 1-0 loss to San Jose Earthquakes through a seventh-minute goal from Cam Weaver. Following the match, which was played at the Home Depot Center as part of both teams' preseason preparations, Chivas USA Head Coach Preki was realistic that lessons needed to be learned from the encounter.
Speaking to the team's official website Preki said: "This was our first MLS game, I think we got reminded today that this league is a little more physical. We had a lot of new faces, when you put a lot of new faces on the field, you're not going to be as fluid as you normally are."
"When you play any other MLS team in the preseason, it's going to be a tough one," Chivas defender Shavar Thomas said. "Everyone wants to make a statement for the season. It's a long season, there are going to be injuries and suspensions, so we have to try different things."
"This match was a lot faster paced than we've been playing," striker Justin Braun said. "We didn't play our game. We need to be sharper on Saturday, but if we come out and play the way we're supposed to play, we'll be alright."
Chivas USA face Eastern Conference's Chicago Fire at the Home Depot Center in another preseason scrimmage Saturday.
