When Chivas USA forward Maykel Galindo sees the Cuban National Team line up to take on the USA this Saturday in a World Cup qualifier, part of his mind will be back in Cuba.

Quoted on mlsnet.com, Galindo explained he would be routing for his country of birth "I played for the national team for a long time and I hope Cuba can advance in World Cup qualifying."

Having sought political asylum from Cuba, to follow a dream of playing professional soccer in the USA, Galindo as with many residents and US Citizens, travelling or returning to Cuba is not an option.

The US have not played in Cuba since the trade embargo was placed by America in 1962. The cleats also would have been a little different in 1947 which was the last time the US National team set foot in Havana to play Cuba in a competitive match.

On a side note, if you do not see any jerseys swapped at the end of this game don't be surprised, as Galindo went onto explain: "You pretty much play the whole year with the same jersey. If someone wants to exchange jerseys, like in the Gold Cup, you can't because otherwise you won't have anything to wear for the next match!"

Things have changed a little for Maykel Galindo especially regarding jerseys as every player from Chivas USA now gives a game worn shirt to fans at every home game this season.
