Chivas USA secure NZ duo Elliott and Boyens

Chivas USA have completed the signing of New Zealand internationals Simon Elliott and Andy Boyens.

The pair have been trialing with Chivas this week and impressed new head coach Robin Fraser enough for him to bring them into his 2-11 playing roster.

36-year old Elliott has extensive MLS experience, spending five years with LA Galaxy (where he played with Fraser) before having two seasons with Columbus Crew. He then moved to English Premier League club Fulham for three seasons before returning to the US with San Jose Earthquakes in 2009. He most recently had a short stint with homeland club Wellington Phoenix in the A-League.

Boyens is also a MLS regular, playing for Toronto FC and New York Red Bulls since arriving from NZ in 2007.

"These signings give us depth and experience in the middle of the field," said Fraser in a press release. "I have known Simon for a long time; he'll be able to help us both on and off the field, and we saw in the World Cup last summer what he's capable of. Andrew is a solid central defender with international experience who will be a good addition to our back line."
