Chivas USA coach Vasquez identifies transfer needs

New Chivas USA coach Martin Vasquez has identified some of the key areas he needs to address when signing players this off-season.

The former Bayern Munich assistant is aware the club needs a proven goalscorer and Jaguares striker Adolfo Bautista's name has been linked with Chivas although Vasquez was treading lightly because Chivas' mother club CD Guadalajara are also reported to be keen on him.

"Right now him coming to MLS and to Chivas USA is just speculation," Vasquez said of Bautista.

Another area Vasquez wanted improvement on was in defence and he is in pursuit of two center-halves to replace Shavar Thomas who joined Philadelphia Union in the Expansion Draft.

"We need to find two good center backs because losing Shavar has left us in a position where we have to fill that gap," Vasquez added. "We need to find two center backs with experience."

Vasquez may also need to strengthen the midfield as there is uncertainty surrounding the futures of free agent Paulo Nagamura and veteran Jesse Marsch.
