Chivas USA announced today the addition of Paul Caffrey as first assistant to the Red-and-White's technical staff.
With the appointment, Caffrey reunites with recently named Head Coach Wilmer Cabrera, whom he served a two-year stint with as fellow assistant coach with the Colorado Rapids under current FC Dallas Coach Oscar Pareja.
Caffrey and Cabrera have enjoyed a long working career together. The newly-appointed coach served as Cabrera's assistant while at the helm of the United States Under-17 National Team from 2007 through 2012. The duo guided the U17s to successful qualifying campaigns and Round of 16 appearances at the 2009 and 2011 FIFA U-17 World Cups.
Born and raised in Dublin, Ireland, Caffrey played with the University College of Dublin Association F.C. in the Premier Division of the League of Ireland in 1984 and 1985. The former midfielder helped lead the club to a European Cup Winners appearance in 1985 and also played in a UEFA Cup match as member of Bohemians F.C. of the League of Ireland from 1986-87. At the international level, he represented the Republic of Ireland with the U-17 squad from 1985-87.
