Chivas USA acquires ex-Arsenal, Palace, Millwall winger Smith from Sporting Kansas City

Official release from Chivas USA

Chivas USA announced today that it has acquired via trade Englishman midfielder Ryan Smith from Sporting Kansas City in exchange their first and third round 2012 Supplemental Draft picks.

Per league and team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Chivas USA General Manager, Jose Domene commented on Ryan Smith: "Ryan is a talented winger with great pace and skills. At Chivas USA, we are committed to continue to improve our roster for the 2012 season."

Smith, 25, appeared in 32 matches in two years for Sporting Kansas City, recording four goals and seven assists over the past two seasons. In 2011, Smith appeared in six matches after returning from offseason knee surgery, but his season was cut short in June after leaving the team for family reasons.

The 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft will be held on January 17 by Major League Soccer via conference call. It is a secondary draft which features four rounds with all 19 MLS clubs participating.
