Chipperfield to remain in Europe

North Queensland Fury and Central Coast Mariners target Scott Chipperfield looks set to continue his career in Europe. The Socceroos defender is almost certain to sign an extension on his current contract with Swiss club FC Basel.

The 33-year old has heeded the advice of Socceroos coach Pim Verbeek who constantly says players are better off in Europe.

"I spoke to Pim briefly the other day and I've also read his comments about preferring players to remain in Europe," he said.

"He basically said he'd rather I stay where I am, although he made it clear it's also a personal decision for each player.

"I'd like to have everything sorted out in my mind within the next two weeks…it's been quite a stressful time because a decision hasn't been easy.

"Basel haven't said anything yet, but my feeling is they are pretty keen for me to stay."
