Chipperfield enjoying good form and fitness ahead of Uzbekistan clash

FC Basel winger Scott Chipperfield is looking forward to next week's World Cup qualifier against Uzbekistan in Sydney.

The Socceroos star is enjoying a recent run of brilliant form culminating in a hat-trick for his club in the 5-0 demolition of FC Vaduz last week.

Leading into Wednesday's match, Chipperfield has had a much better preparation than that of his last international match against Japan and is excited about the prospects.

"For the Japan match, I didn't really do much for the eight weeks prior to game," he said.

"I've now played six games, not full games but I played a full game on the weekend, which was my first 90 minutes since the Japan game, so fitness-wise I feel good.

"I could still improve my fitness with more matches and I need to be playing 90 minutes regularly. A lot of the games, I've been coming off the bench, playing 25 to 30 minutes, so I'm probably around 80 per cent at the moment.

"I'm enjoying football again. I was out injured for a long time and I was a little frustrated. Now I'm playing more attacking for my club in a left-wing role, so I'm getting more opportunities to get in the box and score goals.

"I've been in the right positions in the box and the ball keeps finding me."
