Chinese Super League goes digital

The Chinese Football Association Super League (CSL), has appointed Chinese digital media company VisionChina Media as its exclusive mobile TV strategic partner, reports SportsPro.

VisionChina – a digital television advertising network that specialises in public transportation systems such as buses and trains – will team with China’s state TV network CCTV and online media company Sina Corporation to deliver comprehensive coverage of the CSL to Chinese commuters across multiple media platforms.

The exact financial terms of the five-year partnership were not released.

VisionChina Media’s chairman and chief executive Limin Li revealed that the company has so far “developed six programmes to capture highlights of the games, broadcast live matches, provide real-time updates, and also share news of individual football clubs, with the aim of bringing the enthusiasm and culture of football to a wide range of audiences.”

The company is also set to launch VisionChina Media – CSL, an interactive platform for real-time updates from CSL matches for smart phones, ahead of the 2013 CSL season, which begins on 8th March.

Li continued: “Public transit commuters are a key demographic for Chinese football. Our exclusive role as a mobile TV strategic partner of the CSL will create an atmosphere of ‘watching football at any time, at any place’, which will enhance the impact of the CSL across the country and make football a truly national sport.

“At the same time, multiple efforts will be made to create attractive and interactive advertising products. We believe we are well positioned to realise the benefit of the vast business opportunities presented by the CSL.”

Qilin Zhu, general manger of the Chinese Football Association Super League Corporation, added: “VisionChina is a powerful media platform with massive media coverage.

“Partnering with VisionChina Media will greatly enhance CSL's nationwide impact. Football has become a truly international sport, and CSL is one of the most influential sports leagues in China. This partnership combines one of the most influential sporting events with one of the most powerful media networks in China to provide seamless media coverage of CSL for commuters, and to bring football into everyone's daily life.”
