Returning to Tottenham will cost Pascal Chimbonda a fortune.
The Telegraph says Chimbonda was so desperate to leave Sunderland and return to the bright lights of London that he accepted a pay cut which could end up costing him £3 million.
The French defender will have the chance to make up the shortfall in wages over the next few years following his £3 million move back to Tottenham through a highly incentivised contract.
Last night his agent, Willie McKay, insisted: "His move has got nothing to do with football reasons. There was no problem in that respect as far as Sunderland were concerned.
"Niall Quinn has been different class as a chairman with Pascal because he knew that he was struggling to settle in the North East because his wife had not moved up from London."
