Chievo Verona president Luca Campedelli denies their fans were racially abusing Inter Milan striker Mario Balotelli during Sunday's 2-2 draw.

"Our fans whistled at Balotelli? That's just because he is a good player," Campedelli asserted on Gr Parlamento.

"We whistled because we fear him as one of the best players in the world and hence his gesture when he scored.

"On the pitch, anyone who thinks he isn't getting the protection he needs from the referees should watch a video of the game.

"It is a shame that we didn't beat Inter, but you need to put in a flawless performance to win against them.

"Now we must continue playing as we are until the end of the season because we have what it takes to stay up."
