The Viola had sealed a deal with Liverpool for Emiliano Insua, but the move collapsed when his wage demands proved too exorbitant.
“I know that (Fiorentina director general Pantaleo) Corvino has spoken to Chievo,” revealed agent Graziano Battistini on Violanews.com.
“He wanted him before this season and wants him now. I don’t know where we are in the negotiations, we’ll have to see over the next few days.”
Mantovani is a versatile 26-year-old defender who can play as a left-back or in a more advanced position.
“As I said some time ago, I think this is the season in which Mantovani really could leave Chievo.
“His desire is to measure himself up to players at the highest level and in that sense Fiorentina would fit the bill.”
