Chicago Fire's McBride excited about fresh start under new coach

Chicago Fire star Brian McBride is excited about a new challenge under a new coach in 2010.

The former Fulham forward says the chance to start afresh under a new leader in Carlos de los Cobos who will bring different things to the table is a good thing for the club who finished fifth overall in MLS last season.

"Anytime there's a change made, you know that you have to be ready to adapt as a player. We have a good group of guys and as long as we stay focused, together on the main goal, and it sounds like our new coach is very focused on doing that, it's going to be a good thing." McBride said.

"If the coach wants to come in and change the shape of things, which it sounds like, then everyone will have to adapt. That's the greatest thing about soccer. It's a free flowing, adaptive game and every single player on the field has to be out there doing it together as a team, otherwise, you are not going to be at the top of your abilities."

McBride admitted that the club's goal was to win a Championship despite the installation of a new coach and said he was ready to take on a lot of leadership this season.

"You always want to win games and you want to win a Championship and I know quite a few of us are here to try and do that. The building part will go on, but it doesn't change our main goal of winning a Championship," he added.

"Sure, anytime you have been around the league, or played for a while, you always want to be able to improve and transfer that on to your teammates. The good news is we had a good group of young players really step in and do extremely well. We still have the core veterans in Logan Pause and C.J. Brown that provide a little bit of the age, and with that mixture, it gives us a good group."
