Chicago Fire releases Uruguayan striker Puppo

Chicago Fire have terminated the contract of striker Federico Puppo.

The 27-year old Uruguayan has been released by the MLS club for salary cap reasons after initially joining in January 2012.

"Parting ways with Puppo allows us to get closer to cap compliance," said Fire head coach Frank Yallop. "We wish Federico well.

"I want to express my thanks to ownership for this significant undertaking. It's part of a number of difficult moves which help our team going forward."

Puppo joined the Fire after a successful stint with Montevideo-based River Plate via a spell with fellow Uruguayan Primera Division club Danubio.

During his time in the USA, Puppo made 12 appearances for the Fire as well as being loaned to homeland side Defensor Sporting twice and having a stint with Ecuadorian outfit LDU Quito.
